A Good HABIT to Start

Human Animal Bond in Tennessee

To get things started on the new blog, let’s take a look at one of my favorite non-profit do-gooder organizations in East Tennessee– Human Animal Bond in Tennessee (HABIT), a program operating from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. I will admit I have several reasons to love this group, not least of which is that my beloved wife works there as the East Tennessee Program Coordinator. She also recruited me to be a volunteer.

The students in Ms. Waring's class made a sign for the door announcing themselves as Boudreaux's Bunch.

I have been volunteering as a school monitor for the participating schools in my neighborhood, including Belle Morris Elementary. A great human-animal volunteer team at Belle Morris were featured this week in a story in the Knoxville News Sentinel‘s School Matters section. Read all about Donna and her wonderful dog Boudreaux and learn about the good work HABIT does in the region.

If you want to become a volunteer yourself, there is an informational meeting on Monday night (November 9) at Grace Baptist Church in Knoxville. The HABIT web page and HABIT Facebook page have more information about the meeting.
